10 Things You Didn’t Know about the Cantor

Well, since Brian’s Buzz article was so popular, I have decided that I will not be outdone by my husband.  So, without any further ado, I give you ten things you didn’t know about me!

  1. I’m obsessed with Zumba and really love dancing.
  2. I love eggs! I eat them for breakfast almost every day, and there are so many ways to cook them.  I really enjoy cooking, and when I have time, I like to make complicated dishes.  That said, I am definitely not a baker!
  3. I lived in Jerusalem during my first year of Cantorial school. My favorite Israeli food is falafel stuffed with French fries, tahini and pickles.  Hold the hot sauce!
  4. I am originally from Fairfield, Connecticut but I lived in San Francisco, California for six years and I attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I earned a Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance.
  5. My favorite book of the Jewish bible is Song of Songs. It has gorgeous, love poetry!
  6. I met my husband Brian through a mutual friend whose name is also Alison. I officiated her wedding and it was in the New York Times and the article hangs over my desk.
  7. I was the simcha chairwoman of my B’nai Brith Girls (BBG) Youth Group and it mostly involved being friendly, welcoming everyone and bearing sweet treats. Little has changed!
  8. I am a voracious reader and mostly listen to books in the car. My favorite books are historical fiction, comedies, or the latest thriller.  Favorite authors include Amor Towles, Elin Hildebrand, David Sedaris, Ken Follett, Anthony Doerr, Jennifer Weiner, Donna Tartt, Edward Rutherford, Stephen King, and Diana Gabaldon.  Kind of eclectic!
  9. I have an older brother, Jeff, who is married and has two kids. He, his wife, and my niece and nephew live in Westport, Connecticut.  My brother is in finance, so my parents have a banker and a cantor in the family; how Jewish!
  10. I would agree with Brian that nothing is more important than family. We are very close.  Chloe, who is now 4, loves nothing more than playing and snuggling with her brother Dylan, who is 1 and a half years old now.  The extended family keeps expanding and Chloe and Dylan can’t wait to meet their brand-new baby cousin, Vivian Rae, born on February 7th.
