Music and Art
Music, theater and art are cornerstones of Temple Beth El. Much of the credit belongs to our beloved Cantor Emerita, Sandra Sherry-Pilatsky for having founded the legendary Chutzpah Repertory Theater Company.
Grand musical productions like Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The King and I, and Guys and Dolls have all graced our stage. Our producers, directors, musicians, cast members and crew team enjoy a special camaraderie and closeness. The lifelong friendships cultivated through these projects are often cited as an underpinning for the close-knit nature of our congregation.
Productions and performances are often an important fundraising line item in our budget. We rely on these productions on many levels, and we yearn for more. In addition to musical theater, here are some other examples of our well-rounded music and arts activities:
- T.G.I.S. (Thank God It’s Shabbat) Klezmer Band (most fifth Fridays of the month during Shabbat services)
- Festival of Arts & Letters, exhibiting the artistic talents of our congregants
- Purim Schpiel
- Sculpture Exhibit, featuring the work of a local artist
- Art Show and Sale featuring the colorful Judaic graphics of Mordechai Rosenstein
